Ulrich Pfefferhard
Ulrich Pfefferhard (* before 1279 ; † November 25, 1351 ) was bishop of the diocese of Constance from 1345 to 1351 .
Life
Ulrich comes from a wealthy Constance patrician family. His brother Johannes I. Pfefferhard was Bishop of Chur . He studied in Bologna from 1314 to 1316 , where he was also the procurator of the German nation. Ulrich was the owner of numerous benefices : from 1319 pastor in Ermatingen , canon of St. Johann in Konstanz and Schönenwerd , 1332 canon of Constance, from 1337 cathedral dean . In 1344 he was elected as the first commoner bishop of Constance. The disputes between Pope and Emperor had shattered the bishopric financially. After the death of Ludwig of Bavaria , unity was restored and on April 4, 1349 Bishop Ulrich lifted the interdict imposed on the city .
