Ulrike Engelke

Ulrike Engelke (* 1941 in Gleiwitz ) is a German musician ( flute ) and author. She is the artistic director of the Academy for Early Music in Baden-Württemberg eV

Career

Engelke studied flute at the Freiburg University of Music with a minor in recorder , viola and singing. After the state examination as a music teacher in 1965, she went on to study with the flautist Aurèle Nicolet .

In the years up to 1978 she specialized in early music of the 17th and 18th centuries and the flute . In addition, she gave masterclasses for traverso and recorder in Israel, the USA as well as in Valtice and Wrocław .

In 1992 Engelke founded the Dresden Academy for Early Music, of which she was director, artistic director and lecturer for the traverse and recorder classes until 2004. This academy has trained musicians and students in baroque instruments and performance practice . The academy has enriched cultural life in Dresden , Görlitz and Upper Lusatia with orchestra and chamber concerts under the direction of Simon Standage and Ulrike Engelke .

In 1993 Engelke was appointed guest professor for transverse flute, recorder and performance practice at the Tynska Skola at Charles University in Prague, where she worked until 1997.

The academy has been called the Academy for Early Music in Baden-Württemberg since 2004 and has been organizing concerts in southern Germany and abroad since then. Engelke lives in Altdorf .
