Ulvi Cemal Erkin

Ulvi Cemal Erkin (born March 14, 1906 in Istanbul , † June 2, 1972 in Ankara ) was a Turkish composer. Erkin studied in Paris with Jean and Noël Gallon and Nadia Boulanger . From 1930 he was a professor at the State Conservatory in Ankara, which he also headed from 1949 to 1951. Later he was also the conductor of the State Opera. He belonged to the Turkish Five , the group of the first professional composers in Turkey.

Erkin composed two symphonies and a sinfonietta , a violin and a piano concerto, a concertante symphony for piano and orchestra, chamber music works, ten Turkish folk songs for mixed choir , piano works, songs and folk song arrangements .

One of his most famous pieces is the Köçekce suite.
