Ulvis Katlaps (born March 20, 1968 in Riga , Latvian SSR , † August 21, 2013 in Waukesha , Wisconsin , USA ) was a Latvian ice hockey player and coach.

Career

Katlaps played from 1985 to 1991 for Dinamo Riga in what was then the USSR , where he also spent the season 1988/89 with RASMS Riga . After the fall of the Iron Curtain , the Latvian studied from 1992 to 1994 at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and ran parallel to their ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association .

For the 1995/96 season he returned to his homeland and only played for the Juniors Riga in the East European Hockey League and ended his playing career that season with Essamika Ogre . In the 2011/12 season, Katlaps coached the Milwaukee Junior Admirals in the Midwest Elite Hockey League .

Katlaps died of cancer on August 21, 2013 at the age of 45.

International

In addition to appearances in the U18 and U20 junior national teams of the USSR, he came to work for the Latvian national team at the B World Cup in 1994 .
