Uma Montanha do Tamanho do Homem ( Portuguese for: A mountain as tall as a man) is a documentary of the Portuguese director João Nuno Brochado from the year 2014 . The film, which was produced independently and on a small budget, portrays the abandoned village of Drave ; the surpluses from the film are used to preserve the village.

action

The uninhabited village of Drave in 2003

The film shows the isolated Portuguese village of Drave, which has been uninhabited since 2000. Its story is told through statements from former residents and with the help of historical recordings.

An essential part of the film is the history and impact of the village from the point of view of past and present visitors (including hikers, journalists and residents of the region) and from the point of view of the boy scouts, who have been visiting the place regularly since 1992 and have maintained it since 2000.

Former residents tell of the difficult but fulfilling previous life in the village. Visitors and scouts then describe their past and present impressions of the local nature and the effect the abandoned village has on them.

Drave has no trace of modern life and cannot be reached by car.

reception

The film was released on October 25, 2014. It was only shown in a few halls on special occasions, but did not go through a national distribution in Portuguese cinemas. Yet thousands of people wanted to see the film.

The first edition of the DVD / Blu-ray double edition with Portuguese and English soundtracks was released in autumn 2014 and was the top seller for several weeks at the Portuguese retail market leader Fnac . A second edition followed in March 2015.

The work was then shown several times in the second program of the public television broadcaster RTP .
