Umamarca is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Umamarca is a neighbor of Coscoma and is located in the canton Coripata in the municipality Coripata in the province of Nor Yungas . The village is located at an altitude of 1746  m on a plateau 650 m above the Río Boopi , which flows north and flows into the Río Beni . A ridge rises to the west of Coscoma up to a height of 2150 m.

Umamarca is located in the transition area between the Altiplano and the Cordillera Real in the west and the foothills of the Amazon lowlands in the east. The climate of the region is a typical time of day climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day are more pronounced than in the course of the seasons.

The annual precipitation here in the subtropical Yungas is 1100 mm (see Coroico climate diagram) and has a clear dry season from May to August and a rainy season from December to February. Transport network

Umamarca is 118 kilometers by road northeast of La Paz , the capital of the department.

From La Paz, the asphalted highway Ruta 3 leads north-east for 52 kilometers to Cotapata and from there another 35 kilometers to Coroico . Here the Ruta 40 branches off to the southeast and reaches Coripata after 32 kilometers . One and a half kilometers before Coripata, a side road branches off to the west from Ruta 40 and after half a kilometer leads to Umamarca and another half a kilometer to Coscoma .

Due to the historical population development in the Municipio Coripata, the Aymara population is predominant, 72.3 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
