Independence referendum in Catalonia 2017 / opinion polls (2010 to August 2017)

As the question of independence is of increasing importance to the Catalan public, opinion polls on the subject are regularly held in Catalonia . The clients are usually Catalan newspapers such as La Vanguardia , Ara and El Periódico de Catalunya , Spanish newspapers such as El País , El Mundo and La Razón as well as specialized centers such as the Center d'Estudis d'Opiníó (CEO) of the Generalitat de Catalunya or the Institute of Political and Social Sciences (ICPS) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona .

There are no clear majorities on the question of independence . As a rule, both the yes and the no camp fluctuate by 40 to 50%, with a few percentage points difference. The question used in the respective survey also plays a role here, and on the other hand whether the survey presupposes that a referendum may be held against the will of the Spanish government. On the other hand, there is a clear majority on the question of whether a referendum on the issue itself is necessary. Depending on the survey, 60 to 80% of those surveyed are generally in favor of a referendum.

In the run-up to the referendum

Since the Catalan government announced the question planned for the referendum in June 2017, opinion research institutes have generally used this question formulation.
