Unbreakable (dt. Indestructible ) is an English-language song of the Swiss band Sinplus from their debut album Disinformation .

Eurovision Song Contest

Unbreakable was registered on the video platform of Swiss television in September 2011 , while it also took part in the French-language and Italian-language selection for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest . The latter took place on November 8th, and alongside the singer Chiara Dubey, the song was selected for the Grand Decision Show. Although Lys Assia (winner of the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956) with her contribution C'était ma vie was traded as the favorite, Unbreakable ultimately prevailed against the 13 competitors with 17.87% of the calls. In addition to the regular line-up of the Sinplus music group, Lisa Panigada also performed on bass. She should also strengthen the band at the Eurovision Song Contest. At the Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Baku , the capital of Azerbaijan , Switzerland entered the first semi-final on May 22, 2012, but missed the qualification for the final. Unbreakable finished eleventh with 45 points, seven points behind tenth place, which would have meant qualifying for the final.

Unbreakable is Switzerland's 52nd contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest and the country's eighth English-language song. With Sinplus, an artist from Italian-speaking Switzerland has been selected for the first time since 2008 , and for the eleventh time in total. It is also the entry that was chosen first for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012.

content

The song is about someone who swims against the current and follows his dreams and who succeeds in everything because he is unbreakable. In Unbreakable is about a person who can do anything they want, no matter how difficult it is. She is asked by a first-person narrator to swim against the current while following her wildest dream. Through the song, Sinplus wanted to express a “strong, direct and simple message that goes to people's hearts” ( Ivan Broggini ). The message of the song is positive and understandable and perfect for the occasion.

criticism

The group of experts, consisting of Carlos Leal , Stämpf and Nik Hartmann , as well as the singer and previous year's representative Anna Rossinelli rated the song positively, for example as "extremely refreshing". The German ESC blogger Jan Feddersen, on the other hand, criticized that Unbreakable was “20 years behind everything that is current”, as well as their appearance, which “nothing really outstanding, exciting or interesting” adhered to, and predicted that the song would not work qualify for the ESC finals.
