Unio Apostolica

The Unio Apostolica also known as Unio Apostolica Cleri (abbreviation: UAC) is a priestly association founded in 1862. Since 1921 it has been known as the "Arch Brotherhood of the World Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus". The international association of bishops , priests and deacons has around 30,000 members and exists in 50 nations worldwide .

The spiritual fathers of the priestly association are Bartholomäus Holzhauser (1613–1658), the Mainz Bishop Wilhelm Emmanuel von Ketteler (1811–1870) and the French priest Victor Emmanuel Lebeurier (1832–1918). The latter is considered to be the founding father of the Unio Apostolica. The first meetings began in Paray-le-Monial in 1862 and took concrete forms in Paris in 1880 . With an apostolic letter dated May 31, 1880, Pope Leo XIII approved . established the Society as an Institute of Consecrated Life and renewed it in 1887. He placed the Association of Priests under the personal protection of Cardinal Lucido Maria Parocchi . Pope Pius X. (1903-1914) became a patron of the priestly community and in 1903 granted renewed papal recognition.

Purpose and task

She wants to give her members pastoral suggestions, offer them help and encourage them to engage in spirituality (e.g. with retreats ). Its four pillars are an apostolic way of life, life in community, sacramental service and mutual assistance. The statute from 1997/98 states the purpose: “In order to grow in pastoral love, the members of the Unio Apostolica are faithful to Christ and his Church. They help each other and all confreres so that life in community finds expression in a true sacramental brotherhood ”(Statut, Trier 1998). Her motto is: "Omnia sacratissimo Cordi Jesu per Mariam Immaculatam". The duties include the daily keeping of the statement of accounts, monthly confession and an annual Holy Mass for the deceased members. With their membership, the clergy receive an increased power of attorney for devotional objects, rosaries and crucifixes . The International Unio Apostolica is headed by a Directory, which consists of the President (since 1991 Giuseppe Magrin), the Secretary General and two other members.
