The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force Austrian Battalion ( UNDOF bequatt ) was the Austrian contingent of the UN peacekeeping force (blue helmets) in the Middle East and stood as a department of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force  (UNDOF) 1974-2013 on the Golan .

Under Defense Minister Karl Lütgendorf an Austrian was 3 to 19 June 1974 UN - Battalion (Austrian Battalion United Nations Emergency Force ) from the Suez Canal to Syria of the Golan Heights as part of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force laid. A total of 720 Austrians were members of the UNEF.

These troops were deployed in the northern section of the disengagement zone on the Golan Heights between Syria and Israel . The contingent strength was about 370 (377) soldiers. Your job is to oversee the separation agreement between Israel and Syria.

The headquarters was in Damascus until 1994 , then in Camp Faouar (near Amret al Faouar ), where the headquarters company was also housed. Other companies were the First, Second and Third Companies.

In June 2013, against the backdrop of the civil war in Syria (fighting on the border with Syria and Israel), the Austrian government decided to withdraw the blue helmet soldiers from the Golan Heights. The withdrawal was completed by the end of July.

A total of around 29,000 Austrian blue helmets from all federal states completed their service on the Golan Heights in Syria, 27 were killed.

Status until the incorporation of the Slovak contingent on May 27, 1998

The 1st company was deployed on Mount Hermon and consisted of the bases "Position 12", at 1750  m . The higher bases were "Hermon-Süd" ( 2380  m ) and "Hermon-Base" ( 2250  m ). Since 1976 there has been the “Hermon Hotel” position, the highest UN observation post on Mount Hermon ( 2814  m ).

In winter, these bases were often cut off from the outside world for up to three weeks due to drifting snow. The supply took place with snow vehicles, and the patrols were carried out with skis. The 2nd Company monitored the southern part from Khan Arnabe to Quneitra . Positions 22 and 28 were responsible for the A1 line north and south of Quneitra. Pos. 28 was the only transition for UNDOF and UN personnel to Israel and was located between the Israeli checkpoint (Alpha Gate) and the Syrian checkpoint (Bravo Gate). West of Quneitra monitored outposts 22A, B, C and D. Positions 25 and 32 were responsible for the B line, west of Khan Arnabe . In position 27 - in the center of Quneitra - the command of the 2nd company was housed. In addition, four patrols were carried out on foot and five with vehicles.

The 3rd Company monitored the central section between the streets of Mazrat Beit Jinn and Massada and also in the area west of Khan Arnabe. Positions 33 and 37 were on the A line. Positions 30, 31 and 34 were on the B line. There were also seven patrols on foot and two with vehicles.

On May 27, 1998, positions 14, 31 and 33 were taken over by the Austrians by the Slovak contingent (SLKCON, SLOVCON).

On June 6, 2008, the Slovak contingent left UNDOF. The 95-strong troop was part of UNDOF AUSBATT under Austrian command from 1998 to 2008.
