The University of Sharjah / University of Sharjah ( UOS or Sharjah University ) is a private university in Sharjah , in the United Arab Emirates . It was founded in 1997 by the regent Sharjas Sheikh Sultan bin Mohamed Al-Qasimi , who is also its president and chairman of the board.

In addition to the main campus in Sharjah City , the university has facilities throughout the emirate. The language of instruction are English and Arabic . The university practices gender segregation .

history

The Kalba campus, which cost 100 million UAE dirhams to build, opened on February 28, 2011 in Kalba . 90 million of the costs were spent on the academic facilities and administrative buildings, 10 million on outdoor facilities.

The teaching hospital and dental teaching clinic opened as part of the medical faculty on June 11, 2011.

The virtual stock exchange for training in stock trading began its work on October 1, 2012. The monitor was set up by the Emirates Securities and Commodities Authority, similar to those of the Dubai Financial Market and the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange. The training simulator was used in class on September 25, 2013 as part of a MoU between the university and ESCA.

On March 24, 2012, the three-story library on the women's campus was opened. With its 10,000 square meters, it offers space for up to a million books. The university has a total of 9 libraries.

The main campus flies on the southern edge of Sharjah in the "university town" right next to Sharjah International Airport . It has five branches in Khor Fakkan , Kalba , Meleha, and Dibba Al-Hisn .

Student center

There are two student facilities for student representatives and clubs, a bookstore, an Islamic bank and shops for everyday needs, a post office, hairdressers and several restaurants and cafes.

Means of transport

A private bus company takes care of the transportation of students within the UAE and from the dormitories to the medical campus. This transport is free, as is that from Sharjah and Al Dhaid to the university and back.

Academic institutions

The University of Sharjah offers the largest number of accredited and certified study programs in the United Arab Emirates. Of the 89 courses accredited by the Commission For Academic Accreditation , 51 are bachelor courses, 17 master courses and 7 doctoral courses.

Student body

In 2015, 13,811 students were enrolled, 10,144 of them in undergraduate studies and 689 in graduate school . 935 (8.63 percent) were international students outside the Arab countries.

research

Research areas include the Sharjah Institute for Medical Research, the Sharjah Academy for Scientific Research, the Clinical Training Center (CTC) and the Biotechnology Program at the College of Sciences.

Sports

The sports department consists of two areas for men and women, each of which includes a swimming pool, a sports hall and a fitness center.

Sports in the department include swimming , volleyball , karate , sport shooting , aerobics , yoga , table tennis, tennis , chess , billiards , squash , soccer, and basketball . Outstanding achievements are promoted through grants and scholarships.
