The University Bridge is a road bridge over the Inn in Innsbruck . The listed bridge, built between 1930 and 1932, connects the Höttinger Au on the left with the city center on the right bank of the Inn. It takes its name from the buildings of the University of Innsbruck on the southern bridgehead .

history

As early as 1900, the then still independent municipality of Hötting planned a concrete bridge over the Inn as part of the development of the Höttinger Au. Until then, the only connection between Innsbruck and the Höttinger Au was the Inn Bridge , over which around 1500 to 2000 wagons and 30,000 people traveled every day in 1909. In 1912 the state, state, Innsbruck and Hötting agreed on the building. However, the preparations were halted by the outbreak of the First World War . It was not until 1930 that the city of Innsbruck, as the client, started construction according to new plans. A competition was announced for the architectural design. Franz Baumann received the first prize and his design was implemented. On February 15, 1930, Mayor Franz Fischer , Provost Josef Weingartner and Höttingen Mayor Johann Hinterwaldner broke the first sod. In February 1932 the bridge was completed and could be opened to traffic. Of the costs, the federal government paid 203,433  schillings , the state 204,933 schillings, the city of Innsbruck 262,784 schillings and the municipality of Hötting 187,613 schillings.

In 2011/12, tram tracks were laid over the bridge, which was renovated and rebuilt. The sidewalks were widened and the bike paths were integrated into them, the bases of the bridge railings were raised.
