The Universitätsrentamt der Universität Leipzig was a building on Leipziger Schillerstraße that came into the possession of the university in 1874 and was destroyed by bombs in 1945.
In 1825 the university's rent office was created. This enabled financial planning and property management for the entire university, which the previous college constitution had not made possible. In principle, the state now took over control of the university's finances through a rentmaster. The initially small office was located in the Senate building on the Pauliner area.
In 1874, the university acquired the estate of the professor of medicine Gotthilf Wilhelm Schwartze, who died in 1855, in his house at Schillerstraße 8 (old numbering), which was built in the 1840s. It was therefore initially called the Schwartzesche Haus .
After a renovation in 1906, the historical seminar for universal history and the historical-geographic seminar moved here. After a further renovation in 1913, the university rent office was housed on the ground floor and first floor. After that, the name Universitätsrentamt applied to the whole house.
On February 27, 1945, the building was completely destroyed in a bomb attack. After that, the site was a parking lot for many years. Today the city skyscraper stands here .
