In the Meiji Restoration , the wearing of swords is forbidden and feudal society is abolished in Japan. But many of the earlier samurai do not want to accept it and become criminals. In order to cope with the rising crime rate, the government is building a new prison in the middle of Lake Biwa , which is supposed to be escape-proof. The Kumō brothers become the ferrymen of the prison, which is only accessible by boat. But they are also secretly entrusted with catching escaped convicts. The eldest of the three, Tenka, always goes alone to protect his young brothers. But one day this is too much for 16-year-old Soramaru and he secretly sets off with the youngest Chūtarō to catch a runaway. They trust in their skills that they have acquired in daily training. Nevertheless, the two get into trouble and are rescued by their caretaker Shirasu Kinjō.

reception

The German magazine Animania praises the choice of the “delightful setting” from the Meiji period, which is enriched with monsters, Shinto mythology and background stories that go far back into Japanese history. In addition to the brisk narrative speed, there is a credible character development in which individual characters do not develop too quickly. The drawings offer an elaborate, expressive Shōjo style with "varied character and costume designs", dynamic, varied page layouts and detailed views of nature.
