The lower town is the part of the inner town of Dohna in the valley of the Müglitz in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains .

The lower town lies on both sides of the Müglitz, to the west and a good 20 meters above sea level below the old town, also known as the upper town . Neighboring places are Heidenau in the north and Gamig , Gorknitz and Sürßen in the west. The closest places to the south are the Müglitztal districts of Weesenstein and Ploschwitz .

The most important street in the lower town is the Müglitztalstraße, which leads north towards Dresden and south to Glashütte . From it branch off, among other things, the Gamiger Straße to Borthen and the Dresdner Straße to the old town. Above the lower town are the former Dohna Castle and the Robisch Castle Wall on mountain spurs . The Müglitztalbahn also runs through the lower town, and its trains stop at Dohna.

The lower town was already the location of several mills and residential buildings at an early stage. However, it was repeatedly affected by devastating floods, including the flood in the Eastern Ore Mountains in 1927 and the flood in 2002 . Aided by the construction of the Müglitztalstrasse in 1851 and the commissioning of the railway line in 1890, industry settled in the lower town.
