Old town (upper town) of Dohna, in the middle the Marienkirche , on the left the castle Dohna

The old town , also Oberstadt , is the historic town center of Dohna in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district , which is considered the second oldest city in Saxony .

The old town of Dohna is located orographically to the right above the valley of the Müglitz , a good five kilometers as the crow flies west of the old town of Pirna and about 13 kilometers southeast of the inner old town of Dresden . It is about 20 meters higher than the neighboring lower town to the west . Other neighboring places are Heidenau-Süd in the north, Großsedlitz in the east and Köttewitz in the southeast.

The center of the old town is the market with the town hall and the Marienkirche . To the southwest, a mountain spur surrounded on three sides by the Müglitz rises into the valley, on which Dohna Castle is enthroned. The Dresdner Straße connects the upper and the lower town and the Burgstraße leads northeast towards Heidenau . The Lesche- / Reppchenstrasse traffic train, a section of the Alte Dresden-Teplitzer Poststrasse , runs to the southeast in the direction of the Meusegast and Krebs districts . The Weesensteiner Straße branches off from here into the valley to Weesenstein . It also provides a fast connection to the Pirna junction on federal motorway 17 , which bypasses Dohna's old town to the north and east.

The old town appears as a planned urban complex on the Taschenberg, adapted to the geographic conditions. She was mentioned in 1445 as "Stetchin".
