Gorknitz is a district of the town of Dohna in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains , Saxony . It belongs to the village of Röhrsdorf .

geography

Gorknitz is about two kilometers west of the old town of Dohna . It is located on the plateau between Müglitz in the east and Lockwitzbach in the west south of the Elbe valley . Gorknitz is located on a small stream that flows east through the Alte Gamig to the Rietzschke and thus to the Müglitz. The fruit growing around Borthen and Röhrsdorf also shapes Sürßen and its immediate surroundings.

Adjacent districts of Dohna are Sürßen in the south, Tronitz in the southwest, Röhrsdorf in the west, Bosewitz in the north, Gamig in the northeast and Dohna city center in the east.

The roads from Bosewitz to Sürßen and from Gamig to Röhrsdorf cross in Gorknitz. The latter is called Gorknitzer Strasse and is the only named street in town. West of the intersection is the village center of Gorknitz, which consists of two rounds . Around the intersection and east of it on the road to Gamig, small settlements have formed that also belong to Gorknitz. To the public transport Gorknitz is via the bus line B of Dressler travel service connected.

history

Gorknitz on a map from the 19th century

The original form of the place name, which comes from Old Sorbian , was probably * Korkonoš- and is therefore identical to Krkonoše, the Czech name of the Giant Mountains . It can be traced back to the ancient Slavic root * krk (" knee wood ") and * nos ("to carry") and thus means "settlement of knee wood carriers". It could have been a clearing name or the transfer of a field or mountain name to the place. Another possible interpretation is the Old Sorbian * Korkonosy ("neck carrier"), a mock name. The name of the neighboring village of Sürßen is also declared a mock name.

The place name was first mentioned in 1321 as "Chorkenuz". Further documents from the 14th century name the place "Korkenas", "Gorkewicz" and "Korgkanus". Various other spellings were also in use in the following centuries, including "Korgkenisch", "Korkonos", "Gorkenicz", "Korkenuss", "Korknis" and "Gorckewitz". In 1791, the shapes "Gorcknitz" and "Korcknitz" were used side by side.

Gorknitz emerged from two rounds, which is why the village complex is also known as a double round. They are located immediately north or south of the stream. The place is within a 254 acre block corridor . The manorial rule was exercised by the owners of the Borthen manor in 1551 , and then by the lords of the Röhrsdorf manor from the 17th century. The administration of Gorknitz was initially the responsibility of the Dohna Department, from the 16th century to the Pirna Office and then to the Pirna Court Office in 1856. On the basis of the rural community order of 1838 , Gorknitz gained independence as a rural community . In 1874 this was part of the Pirna administration . On July 1, 1950 Sürßen, Tronitz and Bosewitz with the districts Gamig and Meuscha were incorporated into Gorknitz, which from 1952 belonged to the Pirna district . On January 1, 1993, the community of Gorknitz merged with Borthen and Röhrsdorf to form the new community of Röhrsdorf. Since its incorporation into the city of Dohna on January 1, 1999, Gorknitz has belonged to Dohna.

To the west of the Gorknitz corridor, south of the Röhrsdorf location , lies the Mark Olbersdorf desert. Olberndorf was first mentioned in 1350 as "Alberndorf" and was already a desert in the 16th century . In Gorknitz there are two old stone crosses: one at the eastern exit of the village, the other a little further east on the road to Gamig. Since 1836 Gorknitz was a member of the school association Sürßen. The Gorknitz Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1939. In 1961 a sports field was built in Gorknitz, where the LSV Gorknitz 61 e. V. plays its home games. Parish was and is the place in the Dohnaer Marienkirche .
