Unterwilflingen is a suburb of the community of Unterschneidheim in the Ostalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg .

It is located about five kilometers southeast of the main town in the Riedbachtal. The approximately 370 inhabitants of the village ( 448  m above sea level ) also live in the slightly higher part of Oberwilflingen ( 476  m above sea level ).

With its 614 hectare almost forest-free district, which is used exclusively for agriculture as meadows and arable land, Unterwilflingen borders the Zipplingen suburb in the west, Geislingen in the north and the state border with Bavaria in the east and south .

history

Already from the 14th or early 13th century BC. The depository dates from Oberwilflingen and contained three axes from the Central European Bronze Age and four fragments of copper bars, most likely of Cypriot origin.

In 1153 the place is mentioned as Wulvelingen . The local nobility Herebrant and Adebrecht von Wilflingen also appear with this first mention. Presumably these were Ottingian ministerials , who otherwise called themselves after other places.

On January 1, 1974, the community of Unterwilflingen, which was located in the Aalen district until 1972 and then in the Ostalb district , was incorporated into the Unterschneidheim community.
