The Uragannyy Point ( Russian Мыс Ураганный Mys Uraganny , German 'Hurricane Cap ' ) is an ice spike on the west side of the Lasarev Ice Shelf off the Princess Astrid coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It is located 5 km north of Leningradskiy Island and forms the western flank of Voronin Bay .
Participants in a Soviet Antarctic expedition mapped them in 1959 and named them that way when a cyclone raged during their stay near the headland . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Russian designation into English in 1971.
