Uranium (IV) sulfate octahydrate can be obtained by cathodic reduction of uranyl sulfate  UO 2 SO 4 .

The tetrahydrate can be obtained by adding sulfuric acid to the solution of the octahydrate.

Uranium (IV) sulfate octahydrate is a dark green solid with monoclinic prismatic crystals which, when dissolved in water, hydrolyze with the separation of the basic sulfate UOSO 2 · 2H 2 O. The tetrahydrate occurs as a whitish-green precipitate made up of star-shaped crystals with an orthorhombic crystal structure .
