Urban Klieber

Urban Klieber (born April 22, 1741 in Telfs , † March 25, 1803 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian sculptor .

Life

Klieber first did an apprenticeship with the sculptor Johann Reindl  in Stams Abbey , then went to Augsburg and then to Vienna, where he studied with Jakob Christoph Schletterer  at the Imperial and Royal Academy . He then settled in Innsbruck and was appointed court sculptor. He created statues and altars made of wood and marble in the classical style for churches in the Innsbruck area. His son Josef Klieber learned from him and also worked as a sculptor.
