He raised the Weiherburg to an aristocratic residence in 1493 , gave it this name and bequeathed it to his Chancellor Oswald von Hausen.
In 1560, Veit Langenmantel , a citizen of Augsburg , bought the Weiherburg and had a frescoed extension, the Langenmantel Hall, built. Archduke Ferdinand II had the castle expanded and created a zoo, the forerunner of today's Alpine Zoo. After several changes of ownership, the city of Innsbruck took over the residence in 1911, which was restored from 1976–1978 under Mayor Alois Lugger . Today the Weiherburg serves as a representative building for cultural and social events, as well as a restaurant.
The St. Anna Castle Chapel was consecrated between 1481 and 1513 and decorated with frescoes by Josef Strickner around 1798 . The altarpiece shows the Virgin Mary between St. Anna and St. Christopher.
