Schneeberg Castle

The Schneeberg Castle stands on a hill next to the Gschnitzbach southwest of the village in the Tyrolean town of Trins .

In a document, the castle belonged to Lazarius von Trins in 1297, later became a Tyrolean sovereign fiefdom and went to Ebner in the 14th century, to Duke Sigismund in the 15th century, to Marx Treytz-Saurwein in 1506 , to Konrad Neujäger in 1513, and in 1527 to Friedrich Franz von Schneeberg. The castle went to Johann Wellinger in 1568, who rebuilt the castle. The castle has been owned by the Counts of Sarnthein since 1778 .

There are no remains of the castle in the 13th century. The residential building, essentially built in the 18th century, was largely renewed in 1910. A northern side wing, which was used as a stable until 1910, has a chamfered round arched door from the 16th century on the ground floor. Remnants of a formerly extensive surrounding wall with two round towers from the 16th century were restored in 1928, a further third tower can still be seen. In 2014 the tower was renovated and re-shingled.
