Urban Plotzke

Urban Plotzke (born April 13, 1907 in Stettin ; † November 20, 1983 in Düsseldorf-Heerdt ) was a German Dominican and Cologne cathedral preacher .

Life

Urban M. Plotzke grew up in a Catholic family in Stettin. His baptismal name was Werner . He was the son of the postal inspector Felix Plotzke and his wife Ludmilla. After graduating from high school, he entered the Dominican Order in 1926 and made his profession on September 15, 1927 . Two of his brothers were also Dominicans. Among them the artist Wolfram Plotzke OP. He was ordained a priest on July 29, 1932. He was initially a master of the students at the Dominican University in Walberberg . During the war , he took over the newly founded St. Thomas parish in Düsseldorf as the parish rector. During this time he was known as a dissident preacher, but, unlike other Dominicans in his monastery, was not arrested. In 1948 he became parish curate at the St. Paulus Curate in Berlin-Moabit. On November 1, 1950, the Cologne cathedral chapter assigned him the office of cathedral preacher . At the same time he taught in Walberberg the subjects homiletics and pastoral . He was prior in branches of his order in Cologne and Düsseldorf. His main activity was the sermon and the publication of sermons.

He died in the Dominikus Hospital in Düsseldorf-Heerdt. His grave is in the south cemetery .
