Urbanus Joseph Kioko

Urbanus Joseph Kioko (born May 13, 1928 in Kilungu, Kenya ; † March 2, 2008 in Nairobi , Kenya) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Machakos near Nairobi in Kenya.

Life

Urbanus Joseph Kioko studied theology at the Kilimambogo Seminary in Kenya (1949–1953) and philosophy at the Kibosho Seminary in Tanzania (1953–1955). He was then a teacher at the Kiserian Seminar in Tanzania and from 1957 to 1960 at the Morogoro Seminar. In 1960 he was ordained a deacon , on January 8, 1961 he was ordained a priest . He then worked in pastoral care and in 1966 moved to Machakos as Vicar Apostolic . 1967/1968 further studies took him to Italy and England. 1969/1970 he was the regens of the St. Joseph seminary in Mwingi.

1973 he was by Paul VI. appointed second bishop of the diocese of Machakos . He received his episcopal ordination on October 7, 1973, the Archbishop of Nairobi Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Kitui William Dunne and the then Bishop of Nakuru and predecessor Raphael S. Ndingi Mwana'a Nzeki .

Urbanus Joseph Kioko is buried in the Cathedral of Machakos.
