Raphael S. Ndingi Mwana a'Nzeki (born December 25, 1931 in Mwala , Kenya ; † March 31, 2020 in Nairobi ) was a Kenyan clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Nairobi .

Life

Nzeki received on 31 January in 1961 by John Joseph McCarthy in Nairobi the priesthood . He worked in pastoral care in Makadara and Nairobi and graduated from St. John Fisher College in Rochester (New York) . He was general secretary for the Education Commission of the Episcopal Conference in Kenya.

On May 29, 1969 he was by Pope Paul VI. appointed first bishop of Machakos . The episcopal ordination donated to him Paul VI. self; Co- consecrators were the then secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and later Cardinal, Sergio Pignedoli , and the then Archbishop of Kampala and later Cardinal, Emmanuel Kiwanuka Nsubuga . On August 30, 1971, he was appointed the first bishop of Nakuru .

On June 14, 1996, he was appointed coadjutor of Archbishop Maurice Michael Otunga by Pope John Paul II and followed him on April 21, 1997 in office. He was a long-time member of the Kenyan Bishops' Conference, its chairman from 1982 to 1988, and was heavily involved in the fight against the immune deficiency AIDS in Kenya.

On October 6, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. Ndingi Mwana a'Nzeki submitted a resignation due to reasons of age and at the same time appointed John Njue as his successor.
