John Cardinal Njue (born December 31, 1944 in Embu , Embu County , Kenya ) is Archbishop of Nairobi .

Life

John Njue studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Seminary in Meru and at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome and graduated with a licentiate in philosophy from the Urbaniana . In addition, he obtained a licentiate in pastoral theology from the Pontifical Lateran University . On January 6, 1973 he received from Pope Paul VI. in Rome the sacrament of ordination . After working in the parish of Kariokoma in Meru in the Eastern province, he worked as a lecturer at the seminary of Mabanga in Bungoma from 1975 , from 1982 its rain . In 1983 he became the first African priest in the parish of Chuka. Two years later he became a professor at St. Joseph's Seminary in Nairobi .

On June 9, 1986, Pope John Paul II appointed Njue Bishop of Embu . The episcopal ordination received his Jozef Cardinal Tomko on 20 September of the same year. Co -consecrators were Bishop Silas Silvius Njiru and Archbishop Raphael S. Ndingi Mwana a'Nzeki . John Njue was called to be Coadju Archbishop of Nyeri on March 9, 2002 . He was also Apostolic Administrator of the Apostolic Vicariate Isiolo from July 16, 2005 to January 25, 2006 and Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Muranga from January 12, 2007 to June 27, 2009 . On October 6, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Nairobi; the solemn inauguration ( enthronement ) took place on November 1st of the same year.

On November 24, 2007, Benedict XVI took him. as a cardinal priest with the titular Church Preziosissimo Sangue di Nostro Signore Gesù Cristo in the College of Cardinals .

From August 2009 to January 2012 he was also Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Ngong .

Act

Since 2006 he has been Vice Chairman of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) .

Njue was the chairman of the Kenyan Bishops' Conference . For his work for the protection of human rights in Africa and for fair and free elections, he received several death threats.
