Silas Silvius Njiru

Silas Silvius Njiru (born October 10, 1928 in Kevote , † April 28, 2020 in Rivoli , Italy ) was a Kenyan clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Meru .

Life

After his theological training, Silas Silvius Njiru was ordained a priest for the diocese of Meru on December 17, 1955 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on October 2, 1975 auxiliary bishop in Meru and titular bishop of Maturba . The Archbishop of Nairobi , Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga , donated him episcopal ordination on January 1, 1976 ; Co- consecrators were Lorenzo Bessone IMC , Bishop Emeritus of Meru, and Caesar Gatimu , Bishop of Nyeri .

On December 9, 1976, he was appointed Bishop of Meru. On March 18, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. Then Silas Silvius Njiru lived in the Residenza Socio-Sanitaria Beato Giuseppe Allamano of the Consolata missionaries in Alpignano, Italy .

Njiru was admitted to Rivoli hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy on April 25, 2020. There he died of COVID-19 on April 28th .
