Peter J. Cairo

Peter J. Kairo (born May 24, 1941 in Londiani, Nakuru, Kenya ) is a Kenyan clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Nyeri .

Life

Peter J. Cairo was ordained a priest on November 1, 1970 .

On March 17, 1983 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II as the first bishop of the diocese of Muranga , which was established on the same date . He was ordained bishop by the Archbishop of Nairobi , Raphael S. Ndingi Mwana a'Nzeki , on May 21, 1983; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Nyeri, Caesar Gatimu , and the Bishop of Meru , Silas Silvius Njiru . On April 21, 1997, he was appointed bishop of Nakuru .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on April 19, 2008 Archbishop of Nyeri. The inauguration took place on June 14th of the same year. He was chairman of the Justice and Peace Commission of the Kenyan Bishops' Conference.

On April 23, 2017, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
