Urho Pellervo Peltonen (born January 15, 1893 in Nurmes , † May 4, 1950 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish javelin thrower who took part in three Olympic Games between 1912 and 1924 and won two medals.

  • At the 1912 Games in Stockholm , the 19-year-old started in both one-armed and two-armed javelin throwing. According to the rule at the time, only the three best throwers who qualified for the final were allowed. In the one-armed throwing, Peltonen wasn't one of them: His best qualifying distance of 49.20 m brought him to 9th place, more than six meters behind third-placed Hungarian Mór Kóczán . In the two-armed throwing, he also did not make it to the final - because none took place, as the three qualified throwers were all Finns and wanted to accept their placements from the qualification as the final result. Sun won Julius Saaristo m with 109.42 before Väinö Siikaniemi m with 101.13, while Peltonen with 100.24 m Bronze won. His bests with both right and left arms were lower than Saaristo and Siikaniemi's.
  • In the first few games of the post-war period in 1920 in Antwerp , he joined again in appearance, with a significant increase in performance: With 63.50 meters, he won the qualification. In the final, however, in contrast to his compatriot Jonni Myyrä, he could not improve any more and thus "only" won silver behind Myyrä, who came close to his world record of 66.10 m with 65.78.
  • When he took part in the Olympics for the third time in 1924 in Paris , Peltonen fell victim to the qualification rule again: As seventh with 55.67 m he was just eliminated because only the best six throwers had three more attempts. Again Jonni Myyrä triumphed. For a medal, Peltonen would have had to throw a further 2.70 m, as the third place, the US-American Eugene Oberst , came to 58.35 m.

Nothing is known about Urho Peltonen's results at the Finnish national championships.
