Uri is an African vehicle brand.

Brand history

Farmer Ewert Smith manufactured off-road vehicles with the brand name Uri , initially to order from 1995 and in series from October 1999. The company name and the place of production changed several times. For the year 2000, Uri Off Road Vehicles Ltd. from Damaraland , Witvlei for 2001 and Uri Offroad Vehicles (Pty) Ltd from Windhoek for 2005 . The saved versions of the company's website give Uri Offroad Vehicles (Pty) Ltd. from August 10, 2001 to September 30, 2002 . and from April 11, 2003 to June 25, 2007 Uri Holdings (Pty) Ltd. on. 2005 it was announced that in South Africa a licensed production took place - another source is as the start date for the South African production in February of 2004. Production in Namibia ended around 2007 .

Uri Vehicle Manufacturing (Pty) Ltd. from the South African Pretoria , which belonged to the armaments company Ivema , continued production from around 2007. The Uri Vehicle Manufacturing website states that Ngwane Ordinance took over the majority of the shares in Uri in 2006, incorporated it into the Ngwane Defense Group and, in 2008, moved into new 2600 m² factories in east Pretoria. C. Stockenström was a member of the board . At the end of April 2014 this company was dissolved.

Step It-Up Service Solutions acquired the trademark rights in March 2015, founded Uri Purposley Built Vehicles (Pty) Ltd. (also written Uri Purposely Built Vehicles (Pty) Ltd. ) based in Rustenburg and continues production.

Off-road vehicles are on offer, which are often bodied as pick-ups . A stable tubular frame forms the basis. A self-supporting body is mounted on top. Initially the vehicles only had two-wheel drive, later also all-wheel drive . Various petrol and diesel engines power the vehicles, which mostly come from Toyota , according to a source initially also from Peugeot .

The company names three different engines in 2016: a four-cylinder diesel engine with 92 mm bore , 92 mm stroke , 2446 cm³ displacement with 55 kW output, a five-cylinder diesel engine with 99.5 mm bore, 96 mm stroke, 2986 cm³ displacement and 67 kW output and a four-cylinder gasoline engine with 91 mm bore, 86 mm stroke, 2237 cm³ displacement and 70 kW output. With a wheelbase of 315 cm, the vehicles are 485 cm long, 168 cm wide and 185 cm high. The curb weight is given as 1690 kg.

Various commercial vehicle bodies are available. Passenger cars have not been handed down.
