Ursenbach is a village in the Odenwald with about 180 inhabitants , which has belonged to the city of Schriesheim since 1973 .

history

Ursenbach was founded by the Lords of Hirschberg- Strahlberg and first mentioned in 1316 as "Orsenbach". Ursenbach initially belonged to the Electoral Palatinate and in 1803 to Baden . The place was incorporated into the city of Schriesheim on January 1, 1973 as part of the major community reform. The original main occupation was agriculture , today it is only a sideline.

The blazon of the coat of arms reads: In red a striding silver ox, over whose back a five-ended golden stag hovers. It goes back to a court seal from 1623. It shows the stag pole of the Lords of Hirschberg-Strahlberg and refers to the place name with the ox "talking", which is probably derived from the original or aurochs .

The most famous citizen of Ursenbach was Helmut Fath (* May 24, 1929 - June 19, 1993), two-time motorcycle world champion in the sidecar class.
