Utopia Parkway is the second album by the American band Fountains of Wayne , released in 1999 on Atlantic Records . It was named after a street in the New York borough of Queens .

When Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger separately began working on the lyrics for the album, they both independently came up with the idea of writing about topics that had preoccupied them during their high school years. As on the first album, the songs are provided with funny lyrics or at least to be viewed with a twinkle in the eye, but serious pieces are also included here again, for example A Fine Day For a Parade , which is about a woman who after the loss of two Family members have trouble finding their way back to their lives, or Troubled Times , which is about young love and which has become a fan favorite.

For the first single, Denise , a video was made that was shown frequently on American music television , but did not drive the sales of the album to the desired level. As a result, the band was fired from Atlantic Records and temporarily broke up to devote themselves to other projects for over three years before reuniting.
