Uwe Bindewald (born August 13, 1968 in Dorheim , today a district of Friedberg ), nickname Zico , is a former German football player .

Career

The defender began his football career at FSV Dorheim . He moved to Frankfurter Eintracht in 1986 via the youth stations SG Melbach-Södel and Kickers Offenbach . There he was first used by the amateurs in the Oberliga Hessen . Bindewald made his Bundesliga debut in the 1988/89 season on matchday 15 against Werder Bremen (0-0). He remained loyal to Eintracht for over 18 years, even after being relegated from the Bundesliga in 1996 and 2001. After he had not received a new contract from Eintracht in 2004 , he moved to 1. FC Eschborn in the Oberliga Hessen after 18 years . With the end of the 2004/05 season he ended his active career.

During his career he played 263 games in the 1st Bundesliga and 123 in the 2nd Bundesliga . In the European Cup Bindewald was 28 times used. Here he was a two-time goalscorer. In the DFB Cup he was on the field 28 times.

Bindewald was a crowd favorite with the Eintracht fans because of his commitment and loyalty to the club. Even today he is regularly celebrated in the stadium with " Uwe Bindewald - Schalalalala ". This is especially the case with uninspiring appearances where the fans lack a fighting spirit. After his active career, the Frankfurt soccer magazine was called "Zico" based on his nickname.

In the meantime, Bindewald has opened a football school in Friedberg-Dorheim. Furthermore, between 2007 and February 2018 he was the coach of the U-17 juniors and assistant coach of the U-19s and the second team of Eintracht.
