Uwe Preußner (born January 9, 1950 in Dresden ; † August 6, 1969 in Hildburghausen ) was a fatality on the inner-German border who was shot by his superior officer while he was fleeing from the border service.

Life

The concrete builder Uwe Preussner was called up as a conscript soldier for the border troops of the GDR in May 1969 . On August 6, 1969, he was working as a pioneer in the renewal of the foremost border fence near Mendhausen when he decided to flee. At about 1.40 p.m. Preussner crossed the border and threw himself to the ground, already in the territory of the Federal Republic, as two security guards shot at him with their AK-47s . Robbend Preussner tried to get into the hinterland. The deputy company commander shot him with his service pistol from about 20 m away and hit him in the head. Preussner lost consciousness and was dragged back across the border by the rifleman and another officer. After he was brought to the Hildburghausen district hospital, Preussner died around 3:15 p.m.

The shooter was sentenced in July 1993 by the Schweinfurt Regional Court to five years and six months in prison for manslaughter. The Federal Court of Justice overturned the conviction in favor of the perpetrator. In July 1994, he was sentenced by another criminal chamber of the Schweinfurt Regional Court to two years and four months in prison for manslaughter in a minor case.
