Uwe Andreas Schmitt (born August 17, 1961 in Marburg ; † December 17, 1995 in Bad Homburg ) was a West German athlete .
biography
Uwe Schmitt won gold in the 4-by-400-meter relay at the 1979 European Athletics Junior Championships with the German team consisting of Thomas Giessing , Edgar Nakladal and Hartmut Weber . At the German Championships in 1983 , 1984 and 1985 he won the bronze medal and in 1985 the silver medal over 400 meter hurdles.
At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , he stepped over 400 meter hurdles and in the 4 x 400 meter relay , but was eliminated both times in the semifinals.
At the age of 34, Schmitt committed suicide by poisoning.
