Uwe Wagschal

Uwe Wagschal (* 1966 in Lauffen am Neckar ) is a German political scientist and professor at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .

Life

After graduating from high school in Eppingen in 1986 and completing basic military service, Wagschal studied political science and economics at the University of Heidelberg from the winter semester 1987/88 . He completed this course in 1992 with the master's thesis supervised by Manfred G. Schmidt with the title “Political Determinants of National Debt in Western Industrial Countries” . In July 1993, after completing an additional course of study with the thesis “More employment through earnings- related pay? The Consequences of the Weitzman Plan “ the Diploma in Economics. In May 1996 Wagschal in Heidelberg, under the supervision of Schmidt and Klaus von Beyme, became a Dr. phil is doing his doctorate. As a result, he worked as a research assistant at Heidelberg University until 1997, and later as a research assistant. In 1997 he moved to the University of Bremen as a research assistant .

In the summer semester of 2002 Wagschal held a teaching position at the University of Zurich , and in the summer semester of 2003 he was a substitute professor at the University of Munich . In the following winter semester he took over the previously represented chair for empirical political research and policy analysis in Munich. In 2005 he switched to the chair for comparative government studies at the University of Heidelberg. Wagschal has been a full professor of political science (comparative government theory) at the University of Freiburg since 2009.

Wagschal is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Bertelsmann Transformation Index .

Wagschal's research focuses primarily on cultural policy and financial policy , here again on national debt and tax policy. In addition, he researches comparative state activity , direct democracy , conflict research and the comparative analysis of political systems with a focus on Germany.
