Uwe Westphal (biologist)

Uwe Westphal (born September 21, 1957 in Maschen ) is a German biologist and book author . He became known to a larger audience through his work as an animal sound imitator . His audio books are the only ones in the world in which animal voices are not presented originally recorded by animals, but are faithfully imitated using human acoustics.

Life

Westphal studied biology with a focus on zoology and ecology at the Philipps University of Marburg / Lahn and graduated with a diploma.

From 1984 to 2002 he worked as a biologist at the Hessian Nature Conservation Academy in Wetzlar and at the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU), Regional Association Hamburg. His focus was on environmental education, planning and conducting natural history seminars, nature conservation public relations and citizen advice. Westphal is the scientific director of a natural history information and research station, a consultant for species and biotope protection and a specialist for large-scale projects in the field of tension between ecology, economy, politics and the public. In addition, he heads the editorial department of the magazine “Naturschutz in Hamburg”.

Westphal has been working as a freelance director of natural history excursions and seminars since 2003. He is also a specialist editor, copywriter, proofreader and book author.

Westphal had appearances in numerous television programs ( Bettina and Bommes , Das Supertalent , Here from four , TV total , Willkommen Österreich , NaturNah , Sag die Truth and 5 gegen Jauch ). He also appeared on the 2009 guessing show The Incredible Animal Quiz .

Audio books

Westphal's audio books are characterized by the fact that animal voices are imitated and they are then given a detailed explanation. There are also concerts of various animal sounds. Westphal is not limited to the imitation of a certain species of animal, but has the ability to faithfully imitate a wide range of animal species. After effective advertising appearances in a television show with a demonstration of his skills, the sales of Westphal's audio books rose so rapidly that they were temporarily among the 20 best-selling audio books in German Internet sales outlets.
