Uwe Wittstock

Uwe Wittstock (born June 5, 1955 in Leipzig ) is a German literary critic, editor and author .

Wittstock began his activity as a journalist at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , where he worked in the literary department from 1980 to 1989. From 1989 to 1999 Wittstock was senior lecturer for contemporary German literature at S. Fischer Verlag in Frankfurt . During this period he was also co-editor of the literary magazine Neue Rundschau . In 2000 he was initially deputy head of the features section of the daily newspaper Die Welt , and since 2002 he has been its cultural correspondent in Frankfurt am Main . From October 1, 2010 until the end of 2017, Wittstock was head of literature for Focus magazine .

In 1989 he was awarded the Theodor Wolff Prize for Journalism. In 2006, as the sole representative of the Kleist Society, he awarded the Kleist Prize to Daniel Kehlmann .
