career

Uzeb was founded in Drummondville, Québec in 1976 by guitarist Michel Cusson . The name Uzeb came about by shortening the word Eusèbe-Jazz (the group played their first concert in Saint-Eusèbe). Soon after the formation, the band moved to Montreal . The drummer Jean St-Jaques and the bassist Alain Caron were members of the band from 1978. The drummer position was then occupied by Sylvain Coutu and, from 1980, again permanently by Paul Brochu. A keyboard player also played in Uzeb until 1987. In the 1980s they were known for their very advanced midi technology.

After 1987, Uzeb became a trio of Cusson, Caron and Brochu. Uzeb won the Quebec Félix Award for "Band of the Year" in 1984 and 1989. They also won awards for best jazz album for 1983, 1984, 1986 and 1987. Uzeb made several tours through Canada. In 1991 Uzeb won the Oscar Peterson Lifetime Achievement Award , which was presented at the Montreal International Jazz Festival that same year. Uzeb played their first European concert in 1981 at the Bracknell Jazz Festival in England . In 1983 Uzeb also played at the Festival de Jazz in Paris . They also performed in other European countries as well as in Southeast Asia. Her best-known songs are: Junk Funk , Smiles and Chuckles , Mile "O" , 60, rue des Lombards , Spider and Uzeb Club .
