Alain Caron (* 1955 in Saint-Éloi , Québec , Canada ) is an influential bassist in fusion and jazz music .

biography

Alain Caron's career began at the age of 11 when he discovered his love for music, especially jazz . In the early 70s Caron worked on many projects as a studio bassist and played in all jazz clubs in and around Montreal . Correspondence courses helped the self-taught person to acquire the basics necessary to study a summer semester at Berklee College of Music in Boston . In a short time, Alain Caron established himself as an outstanding and professional bass player, and musicians such as David Kikovsky, Tom Harrell , Sal Nistico , Frank Tiberi, Jerry Bergonzi and Bob Moses asked about the collaboration.

In 1977 he joined the Michel Cusson Group, where he met like-minded musicians who shared his understanding of jazz with him. In the early 1980s the band formed the fusion band UZEB . The band soon achieved high status and received awards from various magazines and committees .

Caron soon had a reputation for being a master of his craft and was considered a virtuoso , especially at playing 6-string bass guitars. Unsurprisingly, he was soon teaching at music schools in Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, London, Rome, Amsterdam and Frankfurt. After the dissolution of UZEB, the first of his five solo albums "Alain Caron - Le Band" was created in 1992. Several tours followed with the trio of Mike Stern in Europe, USA and Canada, as well as with the Trio Caron-Ecay-Lockwood in Europe, USA, Korea and China. In the following years, Alain Caron produced 3 more albums, one of which was voted one of the best of the decade by “Bass Player” magazine. His latest album underscores Caron's ability, but above all it highlights his performance as a songwriter and orchestrator.

Style of play

Alain Caron is considered to be one of the most outstanding bassists in slap technique . Particularly noteworthy is the fact that he also uses this technique on 6-string basses. But Caron also impresses with his extraordinary ability to play fretless basses and the double bass .
