Václav Roubíček

Václav Roubíček (born March 1, 1944 in Mladá Boleslav , Central Bohemia , † July 14, 2010 in Ostrava ) was a Czech engineering scientist, rector of the Technical University of Ostrava and senator of the Czech Parliament.

Life

After graduating from high school in Jičín, Václav Roubíček studied chemical engineering in Prague from 1963 to 1968 . From 1968 to 1989 he worked in research at the Metallurgical Faculty of the Technical University in Ostrava. In 1976 he received his doctorate. In 1989 he was promoted to assistant professor and after his habilitation in 1990 to associate professor. In 1990/91 he was dean of the faculty for metallurgy and materials technology. In 1992 he was appointed full university professor for fuel technology at the TUO. From 1991 to 1997 he was deputy rector of the Technical University of Ostrava, responsible for science and international affairs. From 1998 to 2003 he was rector of the Technical University of Ostrava . During his term of office, the Montan University was restructured and the Faculty for Safety Technology was established. He was a member of the Presidium of the Council for Higher Education (1991–1996) and a member of the Presidium of the Czech Rectors 'Conference (1997–2003) and a member of the Steering Committee of the European Rectors' Conference (1997–2003).

From November 2, 2002 to November 2, 2008, Roubíček was a non-party member of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic for the constituency: No. 72 Ostrava City . In the Senate he was initially Vice President for Education, Science, Human Rights and Petitions, and from 2003 Vice Rector for External Relations. Since 2007 Head of the Permanent Delegation of the Parliament of the Czech Republic to the European Union for European Security and Defense Policy. In 2008 he joined Občanská Demokratieická strana (ODS).

Roubíček was married and had two sons. He died of complications from cancer.

Act

In 1999 Václav Roubíček was President of the ICEE ( International Conference on Engineering Education ) from 1999, from which the iNEER International Network for Engineering Education & Research was founded in 2000 . He was a member of the iNEER board from 2000 to 2010 and chairman of the iNEER board in 2002/03.

From 2000 to 2003 he was vice chairman of the International Committee of the International Pittsburgh Coal Conference . From 2000 to 2002 he was President of the Association for Reconstruction and Development of North Moravia and Silesia and from 2003 to 2010 President of the Association for the Development of the Region. In particular, he was committed to the expansion of Dálnice 47 , the motorway between Brno and Ostrava.

In 1971 he became a member of the Czech Society for Coke (Česká koksárenská společnost). In 1986 he became a member of the Czech Chemical Society (Česká společnost chemická). He was honored with an honorary doctorate.
