Vít Fousek (born December 31, 1913 in Tři Studně ; † 1990 ) was a Czechoslovak skier and a victim of communist rule.

Life

Fousek came from a seasonal worker family. Since 1910, Nové Město na Moravě had developed into a center of cross-country skiing and Fousek had also been practicing this winter sport since childhood. He married in 1939 and a year later his son Vít , who also became a skier, was born. After the divorce, Fousek left his small business in Tři Studně to his wife and bought a new one in Vlachovice .

Fousek took part in the Olympic Games twice. Among other things, he achieved victories in the Czechoslovak championships and in the “Golden Ski” competition. Fousek was a member of the Orel Sports Association.

In 1953 Fousek was arrested in Jihlava by the Státní bezpečnost because he was supposed to belong to a subversive group Menšíková and Co. In a show trial the group was accused of having supported General Josef Musil's escape in 1950 and of having prepared the overthrow of the People's Democracy by taking in elements hostile to the state. In 1954, Fousek was sentenced to nine years in prison by the Jihlava District Court for high treason. In addition, there was an expropriation and a three-year revocation of citizenship. He served his imprisonment in Jihlava, Pankrác prison and the Vykmanov C reform and labor camp. Fousek was released in 1960 as part of an amnesty.
