history

In 1970 the volleyball team KTSV Sarnen was founded. The club consisted exclusively of women's teams. The first season was completed in the 4th division. In 1972 he was promoted to the 3rd division with the coach G. Caprez. In the following year the team rose to the 2nd division. After the team was able to assert itself in the second division for six seasons, the first setback followed in 1979 with relegation to the third division. Volleya Giswil was founded parallel to KTSV Sarnen in 1975, which also only had women's teams. There, too, the first season in the 4th division was completed. In 1977 he was promoted to the 3rd division. In 1978 Volleya Giswil moved to KTSV Giswil. The team then achieved a U16 runner-up Swiss title that season. In the following season, he was promoted to the 2nd division.

In 1979, a performance group was formed from both clubs. The new club played under the name KTSV Volley OW . The team in the 2nd division was trained by G. Caprez. B. Zumbühl took over the 3rd division team. In the years 1980-1986, the club had a 2nd division women's team, a 3rd division women's team and a junior first division team. In 1983 the first big success was celebrated at a Swiss Junior A Championship. The junior female team of the KTSV Volleya OW reached the 3rd place. This year the club began to build up the mini-system : they began to train young players and introduce them to the large volleyball field. In 1984 the regional championship title and promotion to the first division could be celebrated. The rise took place under the coach B. Zumbühl. The season in 1986 was completed with a first division women's team under the coach P. Caprez, a second division women's team under the coach B. Zumbühl and a junior team, also under the direction of B. Zumbühl. Numerous mini-teams also played under the name KTSV Volleya OW . The Swiss championship could be celebrated at the Swiss championship U14 3x3. For the next 10 years from 1986 to 1995 the first team could play in the first division without interruption . In addition, many regional championship titles followed, at least five medals at Swiss championships and the team was able to achieve the title of Swiss school sports champion eight times . At the end of the season, the club held the Swiss U21 Championships in Sarnen.

1996 followed the promotion to the National League B under the direction of K. Inglin. The 3rd division team and the three junior teams were trained by G. Caprez, B. Zumbühl, B. Durrer and other young coaches. In addition, there was the youth work with five to eight mini-teams. This work paid off. The U16 team of KTSV Volleya OW was able to achieve the runner-up title at the Swiss championships.

In 1998 the KTSV Volleya OW was dissolved and the association VBC Volleya OW was founded. The Volleya Giswil association was also dissolved . The VBC Sachseln association joined the VBC Volleya OW . The National League B team strengthened itself for the following season with two former National League A players. On the one hand, this was Lucia Omlin and, on the other hand, the Swiss national team player Andrea Kiser. Thanks to good club work and the promotion of young talent, the club was able to organize the U14 Swiss championships. This year, an international match for the women's national team was played in the sports hall in Sarnen.

In the years 1998 to 2001 the first team could exist in the national league. This under the direction of trainer Werner Augsburger . In 2002 the team had to deal with relegation to the first division. The descent is under the direction of C. Ruff. However, the team was able, despite Sarah Raw (National League A player) and the sisters Claudia and Andrea Ming (players in the National League A ) do not exist. In the past four years the VBC Volleya OW was able to achieve around six regional championship titles and won two medals at Swiss championships.

In 2004, the first team that played the season in the first division had to relegate to the second division. The VBC Volleya OW was able to book several regional championship titles in the junior women's division, followed by many good results at Swiss championships, but it never reached the medal ranks. In the following 2005 season, the first team rose again to the first division. The 3rd place at the U14 Swiss Championships could be achieved.

In 2006 a new era began in the club's youth development. With the engagement of Enrico Arlt, a professional mini-trainer was hired for the first time. In the same year the U14 Swiss Championships are held in Giswil . In 2006 the first team reached a playoff spot. However, promotion to National League B was not achieved. Arlt's new signing paid off. The U14 team became Swiss champions and Martina Halter was named the best player of the tournament.

In 2007 V. Pech, former Czech junior national team coach, took over the first division team. In the following season 2008 the promotion to the National League B could be celebrated. There were also two regional championship titles from junior women teams, including the U16 Swiss championship and an U14 vice Swiss championship. Martina Halter from the junior department of VBC Volleya OW made the leap into the youth national team.

Between 2009 and 2011, the first team was able to narrowly escape relegation twice. The league was only secured due to withdrawals by teams. The years of youth development paid off, however, which was demonstrated by the numerous regional championship titles and the U14 Swiss championship title in 2009, in which Esther Rohrer was recognized as the best player. Participation in the U21 Swiss Championship, the highest junior women's league, rounded off the season. In 2011 the title at the U22 Swiss Championships was celebrated. Seline Zumstein was named the best passeus in the tournament. At the end of the season, the club was allowed to host the Swiss U12 and U14 championships in Sarnen , the completely new sports facility.

The association has been called Raiffeisen Volleya Obwalden since 2015 . The promotion and training of young people continues to be in the foreground.

At the end of 2015/16, after a season under the most difficult circumstances, the first team was relegated to the first division.

In March 2017 Volleya rose again to the National League B under the new coach Nikolas Buser. In 2017/18, the club was able to celebrate the best result in the club's history with third place in the NLB.

Name of the audience

The Raiffeisen Volleya OW team is usually cheered on during a match with the words Hopp Volleya . The name Tschifi is also important for the Obwalden volleyball players . The Capricorn mascot was christened Tschifi . However, the call Go Tschifi is used by SG OW, the men's volleyball club from Obwalden.

Game and training locations

For many years, Raiffeisen Volleya Obwalden's club hall was located in Sarnen on Rütistrasse. In the summer of 2005, Obwalden was devastated by the 2005 Alpine floods . The club hall was also affected. Their location was only a few hundred meters from Lake Sarnen and a few meters from the Sarneraa. The club had to look for new venues as the hall was closed and renovated. A temporary air dome was built in Sarnen, but due to the lack of infrastructure only beginners could train there. All other trainings have been moved to the MZH Giswil. A few teams trained in the Sarner village gym in Cher, in Dossenhalle in Kerns or in the gym in Flüeli . The Alpnach gym was also used for some training weekends. After five years in no real club hall, the club was able to play the first training sessions and the first game in November 2010 in the newly renovated club hall, which is located directly behind the newly renovated triple hall on Rütistrasse in Sarnen. It has an international dimension and offers enough space for spectators and players.

Almost all training courses can be carried out in Sarnen. There are still some training units to be carried out in Giswil due to the high demand for halls in Sarnen.
