V is the fifth studio album by Thomas Godoj . With V the Roman number V is meant. It was released on October 24, 2014 through his own record label Tomzilla Musik. Contrary to the previous albums, this again purely German-language album was self-financed. A crowdfunding platform made it possible to purchase services that enabled financing even before publication.

Emergence

After Thomas Godoj had been forced to compromise again and again over the last few years, regardless of which record label he was under contract and he said he could not make the music he had in mind, he broke new ground with this album. He secured the financing via the crowdfunding platform Startnext . His crowdfunding campaign started on April 29, 2014 and he had set himself a funding goal of € 55,000. This goal had to be achieved within a certain self-selected period so that the money could be paid out and it must be used for a specific purpose. This financing goal was achieved within 24 hours. In doing so, he broke the European music crowdfunding record. At the end of the financing phase, on July 5, 2014, over € 158,000 had been raised.

Cover

The album is available in different editions. The coloring varies depending on the edition. Both the album and the vinyl edition are black and red. On the black surface is written Thomas centered across the entire width at the top, Godoj also centered underneath, with the three letters in the middle filled in. At the lower edge is also written across the entire width and centered ++ Album V ++. In the middle there are large, intertwined stylized letters T, G and V. Like this font, the outline of the whole is red. The repeatedly repeated lettering Thomas Godoj ++ Album V ++ is on the entire border. Nils Eichmann is responsible for the design and illustration of the entire booklet. All lyrics are in the booklet.

Music video

The video for the single Magnetisch was directed by Sebastian "Sebel" Niehoff from 1. – 2. Filmed September 2014 in Stadtlohn . The song describes love as an attraction and repulsion, similar to magnetism in which unlike poles attract and repel like poles. But two magnets always try to turn opposite poles towards each other, this also happens in Magnetic , which is shown very clearly in the video. The lovers are played by Thomas Godoj himself and Jennifer Opitz. The video was shot as a stop trick . A 16: 9 screen was projected onto the floor. The resulting area was marked out with adhesive strips and served the performers as a framework in which they had to perform all movements while lying down. So that these movements could be cut into a video, the smallest changes in movement had to be captured photographically.

trip

The tour of the same name for the album started on November 26, 2014 in Ahaus and ended on December 20, 2014 in Kaiserslautern . This time the tour also took him to Austria. As in 2013, he will be accompanied by Torsten Bugiel , Sebastian Netz and Sebastian Naas. Thomas Spindeldreher is a new addition to the V -Tour. After his album review from 2014, Thomas Becker added a live report on September 17, 2015 and sums it up: “But at the latest after the trio Best Decision , Winter Children and No Man's Land , which drive me to the front rows, I become aware that this band can easily keep up with the aforementioned hottest pieces of the Scandinavian rock scene. Great songs, lots of fun, fine sound, intelligent lyrics, what more could you want? ”.

resonance

Thomas Becker from powermetal.de rates the long player positively. He writes about the opener “ Exactly the moment ”: “Well-produced, intelligently arranged and, above all, incredibly energetic, almost angry Power Rock, carried by a very charismatic, pleasantly deep voice”. In his opinion, there were still lots of other aspects of V : "Because the thing would shallower and British sounding side with a very attractive catchy melody blessed Magnetic and slightly to the U2 (band) sounding The Dark Valley ." He concludes, "But no matter what he does, the music never comes across as pompous, never aimed at quick success, and yet I can imagine that many people would like to hear this music on the radio." He finally mentions one small point of criticism: V “Is a liberation album on every nook and cranny, on which the listener is repeatedly confronted with Thomas' tough fight against business and the stigma as a casting star - especially lyrically. As important as this may be for Thomas Godoj as a person, I would be very interested in what lies beyond it and what his true artistic concern is. "
