V'starkker aus (Das Akustik-Album) is the first studio-produced acoustic album by Thomas Godoj . It was released on September 25, 2015 through his own record label Tomzilla Music. Like the fifth studio album, this acoustic album was self-financed. The financing was secured in 2014 via the crowdfunding platform Startnext . This is also the reason for the spelling of the title. In analogy to the V of the fifth studio album, the highlighted V in the title of the acoustic album is intended to draw attention to the fact that both can be traced back to this project.

Emergence

The studio album V (Thomas Godoj album) was financed through the crowdfunding campaign that Thomas Godoj had carried out in 2014. The set financing target of € 55,000 was achieved within 24 hours. In doing so, he broke the European music crowdfunding record. At the end of the financing phase, on July 5, 2014, over € 158,000 had been raised. It is crucial for the payment of the amount that the set goal is achieved within a certain period of time chosen and that it is used for a specific purpose. Through this great success he was able to fulfill his wish to record an acoustic album. From the five studio albums so far, 14 songs were selected, which were completely reinterpreted and arranged. Partly based on the main motif of the songs, the music style was chosen. For example, bonds were borrowed from swing in the socially critical no man's land . Exactly the moment that for Thomas Becker from powermetal.de on album V (Thomas Godoj album) is a “well-produced, intelligently arranged and, above all, incredibly energetic, almost angry power rock” is presented as funky on the acoustic album Number. Thomas Godoj, Torsten Bugiel , Sebastian Netz , Moritz Schuster and Sebastian Naas are responsible for the new arrangements . In addition to acoustic guitar , bass , jazz drum set and percussion instruments, grand pianos , cello and violin were also played.

Cover

Sebel, Thomas Godoj and Jennifer Opitz are responsible for the artwork. The album cover consists of 3 pages. All sides are designed as if they were made of wood. The cover sheet is decorated with a portrait of Thomas Godoj. It looks as if it was stuck to a wooden board by two black adhesive strips at the top left and bottom right. On the upper left strip next to the Godoj logo is the words THOMAS GODOJ DAS AKUSTIKALBUM and on the lower right strip you can read V'STÄRKER AUS, where the U in AUS is replaced by a painted power plug. On the inside left is the Godoj logo in white, like it was painted on wooden boards. In the middle is the CD, the background of which also looks like a wooden board. The product information is located on the right inside, as noted on a piece of paper. This stylized piece of paper also looks as if it was stuck to a wooden board with an adhesive strip on the top left, with CREDITS: written on it. In the middle of the stylized piece of paper you can see the Godoj logo, on the upper edge of which you can see the instruments that were played like a drawing. On the right outside you can see a stylized power plug, which also looks like drawn on a wooden board. On the back you can find the 14 album titles, which are written on a stylized piece of paper.

Music video

The video for Don't Miss Something was filmed under the direction of Jens López, TripleOne and published on October 5, 2015 via Facebook by Thomas Godoj. The art exhibition "ver_netzt" by the Recklinghausen-based artist Danuta Karsten , which will take place in September 2015 in the machine hall of the Scherlebeck colliery, was chosen as the filming location . In this art exhibition Danuta Karsten gives the colliery rooms a new aesthetic with foils, cords and paper cuts. The 6 musicians placed themselves in this designed room. The film was shot with a Sony FS 100, which was inserted "floating" freely in the room using a hand gimbal. The partly sideways-turned shots were part of the visual language of the clip, which otherwise does without a parallel plot.

trip

Acoustic concert in the Kulturkirche, Cologne

The band started the V'starkker aus tour on October 9, 2015 in Cologne in the Kulturkirche. Places with a special atmosphere have been chosen for this tour. In addition to Torsten Bugiel (jazz drum set) and Sebastian Netz (acoustic guitar), who have accompanied Thomas Godoj since the beginning of his musical career, he will be accompanied by Bianca Preché (violin), Niklas Hardt (cello), Hannes Kelch ( acoustic bass guitar ) on this tour. and Moritz Schuster (piano). Torsten Meyer from deutsche-mugge.de writes in his live report: “When someone is actually able to break down their songs into a stripped-down sound, without being embarrassed while listening and ear bleeding risked, then it's Thomas Godoj for me. His numbers have the necessary depth to be interpreted differently ... The electric guitar is not just exchanged for an acoustic guitar, but completely new song structures are created in places ”.

resonance

Thomas Becker from powermetal.de is of the opinion that the album deserves the highest rating. He points out that every single song has been completely rethought based on its core message. All of them have been carefully rearranged without having set any musical or stylistic limits. He writes: “ So deliberately it presents itself as a groovy mixture of reggae (really good reggae, because I don't really like this style) and rockabilly, which is just fun, and exactly the moment shines in with its jazzy piano swabs very urban, cool-chilled cocktail party feeling (strange association, I know) ”. Regarding the two melancholy ballads ( Don't Miss Something and Roofs of a Whole City ) he writes: “Here I hear a musician with a seldom perceived empathy, an ability to provide the listener with intelligent and thoughtful texts on the big and small topics that move us all daily, to reach and even to touch deeply at the right time. "
