Valdemars slot

Valdemars Slot ( German  Valdemars Schloss ) is a Danish castle on the island of Tåsinge near Svendborg .

history

The castle is located on the site of the medieval Kærsgård castle. This was partially canceled by King Christian IV when he had the palace built for his son Valdemar Christian from his second marriage to Kirsten Munk from 1639 to 1644 . The remains of the castle were integrated into the new building. The castle was built in the classic Renaissance style.

In 1677 the Danish admiral and naval hero Niels Juel received Tåsinge and the castle for his victory on July 1, 1677 at the sea battle of Køge . In 1754 Niels Juel the Elder had J. restore the castle. The garden was also designed in a new style. The rococo complex created in this context was designed by the German architect Georg Tschierske , who was responsible for the gardens of the Crown Estate Juelsberg , the Herrengut Langesø and the landscaped gardens around the Prinzenhaus in Plön .

The castle was the seat of the parent company Thorseng / Taasinge until 1923. It is still owned by the Juel family to this day. Valdemars Slot estate covers 783 hectares including Nybygård.

The parent company Thorseng, later called Taasinge, comprised the island of Tåsinge. The parent company was founded on May 1, 1711 after the death of Knud Juel in 1709 by his eldest son Niels Juel, which was to be inherited after the linear - agnatic - cognitive succession of the Juel family.

The ancestral home of the Taasinge family was dissolved in 1923 as part of the Danish fiefdom resolution ( Danish Lensafløsningen ). In it were the buildings of the castle, about 280 tdr. Grain fields of all kinds, further land areas amounting to 540 tdr. and a forest area of about 1550 Tdr.
