Valea Mănăstirii ( Hungarian Remetekolostor ) is a village in Alba County in Romania . It is part of the municipality of Râmeț . The Romanian place name literally means "valley of the monastery".
location
Valea Mănăstirii is located in western Transylvania in the Trascău Mountains . Located on the district road ( drum județean ) DJ 750C, the place is about two kilometers south of the community center. The village is located in the deep valley of the Geoagiu River .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1441. It arose around a Romanian Orthodox monastery, which was probably founded in the 14th century.
population
The 172 inhabitants of the place (as of 2002) call themselves all Romanians. The population has remained almost constant since the first official survey in 1956 (then 156).
traffic
Valea Mănăstirii is located on a paved driveway that begins in Teiuș and ends in town. There are several daily bus connections to Teiuș (as of 2008).
Attractions
The Râmeț monastery is of central importance to the place . A stone church built in 1376 stands on its site. The monastery houses a museum, among other things.
The scenic location and the proximity to the Cheile Mănăstirii and Râmeț valley gorges are also interesting for tourists .
In the area around Valea Mănăstirii there are still several thatched-roof houses, some of which have had to give way to holiday homes in recent decades.
