Valentin Bing

Valentin Bing , also Valentijn Bing (born April 22, 1812 in Amsterdam , Département Zuyderzée ; † January 28, 1895 in Nieuwpoort , Netherlands ), was a Dutch history , genre , interior and portrait painter , draftsman and lithographer .

Life

Bing received his artistic training from the painter Jan Adam Kruseman and at the Amsterdam Art Academy . In 1839 he became a member of the Amsterdam artists' association Arti et Amicitiae . He was close friends with the genre painter Jan Braet von Überfeldt . In Amsterdam, Bing had a studio in which he trained students, including Jacques Carabain and Eduard Frankfort .

Bing was especially valued for his history pictures and his genre depictions, which reveal a romantic, ethnographic interest. He painted a number of interiors and portraits. In addition to oil painting, he created watercolors and lithographs. His folklore and costume books Nederlandsche Kleederdragten and Nederlandsche zeden en gebruiken , which he illustrated with many colored lithographs in collaboration with Überfeldt, became famous in 1857 and 1859 .
