Valerie Springer (born May 14, 1958 in Munich ) is an Austrian writer of British - Czech - Austrian origin.

Life

Valerie Springer's parents returned to Central Europe in 1957 after emigrating from Great Britain , where Springer's sister was born in 1956 . Valerie Springer was born in Munich and received her parents' British citizenship . After several positions in various European countries, the family moved to Switzerland in 1969, where Valerie Springer graduated in 1977 ; in the same year the family moved to Austria.

Springer married the advertising strategist Rudolf Schramm in 1983 and had two children with him. During their marriage, she renounced her British citizenship and accepted the Austrian one. In 1993 the divorce took place. In 2004 she married Horst Springer, with whom she had previously spent several years in Jamaica. He is also the father of their third child. Since her marriage, she has published under her current name Springer. She publishes in German and English. Springer is a member of the Austrian Society for Literature and the GAV .

Springer initially worked as a culture editor for journals and magazines before she published her first book in 2003, a non-fiction book about the relationship problem of jealousy . Then she turned exclusively to fiction and has since lived as a freelance writer in the Vienna Woods in Lower Austria .

Her debut novel Eine Liebe auf Jamaica is an erotic, tingling love story that uses poetry to depict the encounter between a European woman and a researcher from the Jamaican Maroons .

Springer's second novel Resolution was published in April 2009 . In a plot that takes place on different time levels, Springer dedicates this prose text to the background to the assassination attempt on Reinhard Heydrich in the spring of 1942 in Prague . Pavel Kohout praised the accuracy of her Prague research for Springer's novel Resolution with an explicit "recognition of her knowledge of the complicated historical matter". Barbara Coudenhove-Kalergi and Beppo Beyerl Springer also attested to conscientious detail work.

Destruction was published in June 2011 and deals with the struggle of an individual against the terror of multinational corporations against the background of globalization- imperialism.

Valerie Springer is the winner of the Theodor Körner Prize and has received several grants from the Federal Ministry for Education, Art and Culture, Vienna.

Springer has been on the air as a radio producer for the independent broadcaster Campus & City Radio 94.4 since August 2016 with her socially critical format last exit .
